The development process at Knauf Industries

But more than just words, Knauf Industries' co-development of custom plastic parts is first and foremost a process optimized to move forward quickly! To achieve this, we have developed a 4-step process:

Stage 1: Audit, needs analysis and specifications

Because a good collaboration starts with an understanding of your expectations, we come to you to discuss your needs and help you develop and realize your ideas. Thanks to our experience in materials, functions and processes, we open up the field of possibilities to overcome initial technical limitations.

Are you struggling to identify friction points in your current rooms, or do you need specific advice on how to improve them? Our experts bring their vision to your project and guide you with complete transparency.

We organize exchange meetings and work together to explore the full range of possibilities, then select the most technically and economically relevant orientations. We then work together to draw up precise technical and functional technical and functional specifications.

Stage 2: Co-development and eco-design

Our ID Lab center and in-house design capabilities enable us to accompany you from the ideation phase through to industrialization. We then move on to the co-development of the plastic parts themselves, notably by means of a 3D design models, digital simulation and all the calculations required to define the most optimal design.

We will then support you in carrying out all the necessary tests tests. Our test laboratory prototype and, depending on the type of test, qualifies solutions to technical choices before launch.

With Knauf Industries, you benefit from concrete advantages:

  • Accelerating time-to-market through simulation Our numerical simulation capabilities accelerate development iterations by minimizing the need for time-consuming and costly real-world testing.

Optimized design We can help you design to combine functionality, eco-design and optimal technical and economic performance. And all with elegant solutions that can meet experiential needs.

Materials and processes for your projects

From design to quality control, from modeling to design validation, Knauf Industries offers you comprehensive support. This support is backed up by technical resources adapted to meet the most ambitious requirements. Knauf Industries puts at your service four major areas of expertise in parts manufacturing processes:

  • Moulding of cellular foams ;
  • Plastic injection ;

  • As well as cutting.

These processes are supported by a wide range of materials that we can exploit, including the PPE (expanded polypropylene) EPS (expanded polystyrene), specialty materials (eTPU, ePA) or alternative alternative circular materials.

Case studies

Every year, numerous companies call on Knauf Industries for the co-development of custom plastic parts:

Food industry

In the food sector, for example, three manufacturers (Florette, Les Crudettes and Sodebo) turned to our expertise to design a reusable food tray.

With a view to standardization and the circular economy, we have developed a standardized tray, shared by the production lines of all three manufacturers, but which can still be customized.

Notable impacts: Reduction of plastic waste and cost optimization.

Case studies

Telepresence sector

A player in robotic telepresence asked us to modernize and make more functional its cardboard packaging with plastic bags.

Faced with this need, we co-developed a single-material packaging in expanded polypropylene (EPP), entirely customized and adapted to the product, with integrated wedges and personalization in line with the company's brand image and high added value.

The effects, in terms of use, are immediate. Thanks to its strength and lightness, it circulates more serenely between different users and handling is facilitated, helping to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. What's more, the integrated wedges guide the installation of accessories and limit the number of forgotten parts. Finally, the design has been aligned with the brand's positioning.

Notable impacts: reusable design, conceived for real-life flows, which brings measurable operational gains.
