Manufacturer of pharmaceutical packaging

Reliable temperature-controlled solutions to ensure the safety of medications and maintain the cold chain throughout transport.

Expert in pharmaceutical packaging manufacturing

Knauf Industries is a manufacturer of isothermal pharmaceutical packaging made from EPS and EPP, designed for the safe transport of medications, vaccines, medical devices, and other temperature-sensitive products. Our solutions maintain temperature ranges between -80 °C and +25 °C, while protecting products from shocks, vibrations, and climatic variations.

Thanks to our expertise in molding cellular materials and our industrial know-how, we offer both standard solutions and custom pharmaceutical packaging that meet the regulatory requirements of the healthcare sector.

Key Challenges in Pharmaceutical Packaging

The transport of pharmaceuticals is a critical process during which the quality and efficacy of the products must be guaranteed all the way to their destination.

While many temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals must be transported between +2 °C and +8 °C, Knauf Industries is also able to adapt to the requirements of biotherapeutics and vaccines that require sub-zero temperatures as low as -80 °C. For these products, any break in the cold chain can alter the therapeutic properties of the medication and compromise patient safety.

To prevent these risks, Knauf Industries puts its solid expertise at your service to manufacture reliable, robust pharmaceutical packaging capable of maintaining the target temperature while taking your constraints into account.

Depending on your needs, our solutions can also address challenges such as preventing shocks and vibrations during transport, protecting products from external contamination, or ensuring compliance with good pharmaceutical distribution practices.

In particular, we offer insulated packaging that compensates for the lack of refrigerated transport.

Temperature-Controlled Transport

Our pharmaceutical packaging is designed to maintain controlled temperature ranges from -80 °C to +25 °C, in accordance with your requirements. Thanks to the insulating properties of EPS and EPP, our solutions ensure reliable thermal stability for several hours or several days, depending on the configuration chosen.

Our packaging can be used with cold or heat packs to precisely adjust the duration of temperature maintenance to transport conditions.

Impact Protection

Medications and medical devices must be protected against impacts and vibrations during transport. The cellular materials used in our packaging absorb shocks and minimize the risk of breakage in glass containers or secondary packaging.

This mechanical strength ensures that products arrive at their destination in optimal condition while reducing the risk of quality issues.

The materials we use

Knauf Industries’ pharmaceutical packaging is primarily made from foam materials due to the excellent thermal insulation and high mechanical strength these materials provide. We use the following materials in particular:

EPS (expanded polystyrene)

Expanded polystyrene is a material particularly well-suited for transporting temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products. It consists of up to 98% air, which gives it highly effective thermal insulation.

Its main advantages are excellent thermal insulation, light weight, high shock absorption, chemical neutrality, and recyclability.

EPP (expanded polypropylene)

Expanded polypropylene is a highly durable material suitable for reusable logistics systems. Composed of approximately 95% air, it offers an excellent balance between thermal insulation and mechanical strength.

Its main advantages are high mechanical strength, good thermal insulation, a long service life, and the fact that it is washable, reusable, and recyclable.

FAQ
