Knauf Industries: Experts in food packaging manufacturing
A recognized player in food packaging, Knauf Industries supports food manufacturers in the design and production of solutions tailored to the specific requirements of each product.
Our expertise covers a wide range of plastic processing technologies: foam molding, thermoforming, extrusion and plastic injection molding. With our multi-technology expertise, we can now offer you food-grade plastic packaging capable of meeting a variety of needs, from preserving and protecting food products to enhancing their presentation.
With an international presence and numerous production sites, Knauf Industries develops solutions for different segments of the food industry: seafood, meat products, dairy products, prepared meals, pastries and biscuits, and fruits and vegetables.
In collaboration with our design office and our Research & Development department, we design packaging optimized for industrial requirements, while integrating the principles of eco-design and the circular economy.
Have a specific need? Knauf Industries also offers custom-made food packaging.
Standard or custom packaging to meet all your challenges
We know that manufacturers today are constantly seeking to innovate to stand out. As a result, food products have very diverse characteristics. To meet these constraints, Knauf Industries offers standard or fully customized solutions.
Our food-grade plastic packaging is designed to meet the sector's main requirements:
Maintaining the cold chain
All food products sold in refrigerated display cases require rigorous temperature control during transport and storage. Our insulated packaging and conditioning solutions maintain the required temperatures to preserve the quality of fresh or frozen products.
Product preservation
Packaging must protect food from shocks, humidity, and external contamination, regardless of the type of food. Therefore, our solutions are designed to guarantee product stability throughout the supply chain, while preserving its organoleptic qualities. Our trays can also be sealed and are suitable for modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) or skin packaging.
Microwaveable
To meet growing demand, particularly in the snacking segment, some of our packaging solutions are adapted for specific uses such as microwave reheating. Our packaging can therefore be designed to withstand different temperatures and adapt to the needs of end consumers.
Recyclability
Specializing in the manufacture of plastic food packaging, we now place eco-design at the heart of our developments. We prioritize the use of recyclable and recycled materials and develop solutions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of food packaging throughout its entire lifecycle.
Our solutions for professionals
Knauf Industries develops a wide range of plastic food packaging for the various segments of the food industry:
Our solutions for professionals
Packaging for Fresh Fish
We offer thermoformed trays and EPS insulated boxes suitable for packaging seafood. Our solutions ensure the transport and preservation of fresh fish while guaranteeing optimal presentation on the shelf.
Meat packaging
Our EPS trays and packaging allow for the packaging of fresh or processed meats while maintaining the cold chain for distribution and transport. Designed to meet the demands of distribution, they are compatible with modified atmosphere packaging and skin packaging technologies.
Deli Packaging
Because deli products and prepared meals require robust and functional packaging solutions, our trays and containers are designed to withstand handling while preserving food quality. To meet the demands of this sector, they are also microwave-safe and compatible with pasteurization.
Cheese Packaging
We develop packaging adapted to different cheese varieties: containers for fresh cheeses, presentation trays, and solutions for mature cheeses. Our range also includes EPS crates to ensure the safe transport of goods.
Packaging for Pastries
Pastries and biscuits require solutions that protect these delicate products while enhancing their presentation. Our thermoformed packaging can be designed with attractive, ingenious, and customizable designs.
Packaging for Ice Cream
Packaging for frozen products must withstand sub-zero temperatures and ensure optimal preservation. We offer the manufacture of suitable and customizable food-grade plastic packaging.
Packaging for Fruits and Vegetables
We also design PSE crates, trays, pots, and containers, all suitable for fresh and ready-to-eat fruits and vegetables, herbs, olives, and more. This range is designed to be inert, moisture-resistant, and, above all, capable of extending shelf life beyond harvest.

Materials Used in the Manufacture of Food-Grade Plastic Packaging
As part of our food-grade plastic packaging manufacturing process, and to meet all our customers' needs, we use several plastic materials with complementary properties:
EPS
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a material composed primarily of air and offers excellent thermal insulation.
It offers several advantages for food packaging:
- Excellent thermal insulation capacity;
- Lightweight;
- Good mechanical resistance;
- Shock absorption;
- Recyclable material.
EPS is notably used for insulated packaging and transport crates for fresh produce.
PP
Polypropylene (PP) is a plastic material whose thermal resistance and robustness are well-established.
We use it particularly for food trays, microwave-safe packaging, and solutions requiring good resistance to grease and moisture.
PET
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a material primarily chosen for its transparency and strength.
It is particularly well-suited for presentation packaging, as it visually enhances food products while providing effective protection.

-
Plastic packaging extends the shelf life of products by ensuring their protection against humidity, shocks and contamination. Unlike cardboard, they provide an effective barrier to preserve the freshness and quality of food. Their lightweight design also reduces transport costs while contributing to the reduction of food waste.
-
Knauf Industries designs packaging that complies with current European regulations, including the AGEC law and the PPWR. Our products meet the strictest health standards while being part of an eco-responsible approach through the adoption of the 3R principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We support our customers in their ecological transition by offering sustainable and efficient solutions.

Plastic packaging offers a sustainable and efficient alternative to cardboard packaging, particularly for products requiring protection against humidity and shocks. Unlike cardboard, plastic does not deteriorate in a humid environment. It extends the shelf life of food and reduces waste. In addition, modern plastic solutions are lightweight, recyclable and allow for better visibility of products on the shelf.
