Personal data security & management policy

Knauf (hereinafter referred to as “We”, “Us” or “Knauf”) undertakes to protect and respect the privacy of its customers in order to supply them with high quality and relevant services.

Indeed within the European Union, the right to have one’s personal data protected is specified in the European Union Charter. The General Data Protection Regulation was adopted for the purpose of harmonising and modernising European Union legislation on matters of data protection. Since 25 May 2018, this regulation applies directly to all Member States.

This current personal data management and security policy describes how we collect and use your data by your making use of our platforms and digital tools, such as websites, apps, etc. (hereinafter called the “Platforms”).

Accordingly we would invite you to read what follows carefully, in order to understand our practices insofar as concerns the processing of your personal data.

We further undertake to continue our efforts and strive to develop this policy and thereby improve security and management of your personal data. In this respect, we would invite you to acquaint yourselves regularly with changes that may have been made.

WHO ARE WE?

Our Platforms are operated by KNAUF SAS (a simplified limited company under French law) which is owned and majority-controlled by the KNAUF Group (hereinafter called the “Group”), and which itself owns and controls other companies belonging to the Group.
Accordingly, to ensure our activity functions efficiently and that we provide the most relevant services and advice, companies belonging to the Group are required to share your personal data between them, in which case you will be informed thereof.

PRESENTATION OF THE GROUP’S POLICY

As a consequence, the Group has put internal procedures in place intended to protect the whole of your data against any use that is malicious or which does not comply with the previously defined processing purpose. Computer security being one of our principal concerns, our specialist teams are constantly on the alert to ensure your data receive maximum protection; this applies in all the companies belonging to the Group.

Furthermore, we sometimes work with other companies or independent individuals, who provide certain services on our behalf, such as:

  • Processing of payments;
  • Delivering products;
  • Processing payments;
  • Supplying services, especially in marketing support and guidance;
  • Sending post or electronic mail;
  • Erasing information and/or anonymising our customer lists;
  • Managing our customer records;
  • Analysis of our databases;
  • Conducting marketing campaigns;
  • Enriching marketing databases;
  • Providing research results and links;
  • Transmission of content;
  • Credit risk assessment;
  • Transmitting job applications, particularly to recruitment firms.

When choosing our partners, we satisfy ourselves that they are first compliant with the provisions of laws on personal data protection and second, with this policy.

PERSONAL DATA WHICH WE MIGHT COLLECT

In order to ensure you receive high quality service, we need to get to know you. Thus we are required to collect and process the personal data you share with us, in particular your first and last names, postal address, email address, phone number, professional profile, data disclosed in your CV, photos, images or comments, when you use the services offered on our Platforms, including but not limited to the following:

  • Forms completed by you on our Platforms;
  • Content of correspondence;
  • Registering or creating accounts on one or more of our Platforms;
  • Subscriptions or orders placed via our Platforms;
  • Participating in discussion forums or other social/interactive media type functionalities on our Platforms;
  • Use of social networks or other platforms;
  • Taking part in a competition, promotion or poll;
  • Participation in trade fairs;
  • Reporting a problem or requesting support;
  • Submitting your job application.

Furthermore, when you use our Platforms, the following personal data are collected automatically:

  • Technical information, including the IP address, login details, geographical and demographic information, browser type and version, time zone, language, browser plug-in types and versions, the operating system and platform;
  •  Information on your visit, including your complete clickpath and URL link from, across and to our Platforms (including the date and time);
  • The pages you have looked at or searched for, the page response time, download (upload) errors, length of time spent on certain pages, information on page interaction (such as scrolling, clicks and mouse-overs) and the methods used for leaving the page.

We may also collect personal data from trusted partners and third-party suppliers such as technical, payment and delivery services, advertising networks and analytics, search information or other service providers. Insofar as this is concerned, we promise to share traceability of our actions with you if you so request and will keep you clearly and accurately informed.

Finally, looking things up on our Platforms requires the use of cookies or other tracking technologies from third parties on our Sites. Accordingly, we would invite you to read our cookies policy presented below.

 

PURPOSES OF PROCESSING YOUR PERSONAL DATA

Your personal data may be processed for the following purposes:

  • To enable you to have the full benefit of our services via our Platforms, including our offers on training, internal operations, technical assistance, data analysis, tests, research, security and statistics;
  • To communicate information on Knauf products, services, events and promotions;
  • To carry out customer surveys, including satisfaction surveys;
  • To create and develop business opportunities;
  • To handle processing and management of orders and deliveries and the sales cycle in general;
  • To supply or enable selected third parties to supply you with information on goods and services, including via interest-centred targeted advertising;
  • To meet our obligations arising from any contract made between you and us;
  • To improve our Platforms, particularly in order to supply relevant, effective and fun content across all the media which enables you to access our Platforms;
  • To keep you regularly informed of any changes made to our Platforms;
  • To manage how you access the latter;
  • To respond to your enquiries;
  • To enable you to interact with our Platforms, for example by posting comments;
  • To allow you to share information from our Platforms to other third-party digital platforms (social media, websites, forums, apps, etc.);
  • To recruit candidates for vacant posts;
  • To retain candidate profiles for potential future recruitment;
  • To comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

We are required to inform you and obtain your consent if processing is carried out for a specific purpose; you are able to withdraw this consent at any time.

We will retain and use your personal data as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Complete the processing purposes previously described;
  • Meet our legal obligations;
  • Resolve disputes and ensure agreements are complied with.

Once the purposes of the processing have been completed, our obligations met and/or after your account has been inactive for a prolonged period of time, your personal data will be erased unless you specifically request otherwise.

YOUR RIGHTS AND OPTIONS

You have the right to request portability of your personal data, plus a right to information, access to and correction or erasure of your personal data, and limitation or objection to processing in certain cases, which you may exercise at any time free of charge by emailing [email protected] or by contacting us as described in the section “Contact” below.

Please note that in order to ensure secure management of your personal data, you may be requested to provide proof of identity.

Your rights may include:

  • Requesting a copy of the personal information held by Knauf about you, the purpose of the processing, the correction or updating of any incorrect data, information relating to the intended recipients of your personal information and the blocking or erasure of personal information;
  • If you would like to subscribe to our newsletter, we will use your name and email address to send you the newsletter. You are able to choose to stop receiving our newsletter or marketing emails by following the instructions on how to unsubscribe included in these emails;
  • In some cases, you are able to request an inventory of your personal data transferred to third parties and, where appropriate and if your request is legitimate in the light of the purpose for which your data are processed, request their erasure.

Similarly, if you have queries regarding protection of your personal data, or if you wish to contact one of our data controllers, please send us a detailed message to the address given previously and we will endeavour to respond promptly. Should your request be insufficiently precise, please be aware that we may not be able to process it within a reasonable time period.

 

TRANSFERRING YOUR PERSONAL DATA

The whole of the personal data which you disclose may be transferred to selected third parties in Europe and worldwide, and to other companies in the Group, in accordance with the regulations in force as described in this policy.

The passing on of certain personal data to parties outside our Group is also done within a strictly defined framework, for a limited period of time and only to trusted third parties. The collecting and use of information by the third party supplying these functionalities are governed by the third-party confidentiality policy and generally, by a subcontracting agreement.

Because confidentiality and the integrity of your personal data are essential for maintaining your trust, we are careful about security and take all reasonably necessary measures to satisfy ourselves that your personal data are processed in complete security and in accordance with this personal data security and management policy.

So we have put the appropriate technical, administrative and physical controls in place to protect your personal data. On the other hand, however, where you have been sent or chosen a password allowing you to access our Platforms, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We would ask that you do not share any passwords with anyone whomsoever.

The selected third parties and companies in the Group to which your personal data may be transferred in particular are:

  • The commercial partners, suppliers and subcontractors who enable us to operate our Platforms or to supply you with a product or service;
  • The commercial partners, suppliers and subcontractors who supply you with advertising or other information on promotions and offers liable to be of interest to you;
  • The third-party partners who conduct joint marketing activities, products or services with Knauf, including the information collected by Knauf outside of the joint activities, where such disclosure is authorised by the governing law and where you have not desisted as described below.

The personal data which might be passed on to the aforesaid third parties and companies in the Group are, in particular, aggregated data intended for advertisers, advertising networks and social networks which require data to select and disseminate advertisements relevant for you and others. We may also use general information to assist advertisers reach the type of audience they want to target. We may use the personal data we have collected from you to allow us to fulfil our advertisers’ wishes by displaying their advertisements to this target audience.

Further, Knauf is working with selected third-party companies which supply a large range of on-line solutions. It is also sometimes necessary for Knauf to supply these companies with access to certain limited personal data on our users. In such cases, Knauf will only share the personal data required, so that these companies fulfil their duties and will not allow them to use these data for other purposes;

The data collected may be anonymised or pseudonymised, depending on the processing purpose determined, before they are transferred to analytics and search engine service providers which help us to improve and optimise our Platforms.

If the Knauf Company which controls these Platforms or the quasi-totality of their assets were to be acquired by a third party, the personal data it holds may be one of the assets transferred and may be disclosed to potential purchasers.

Finally and in the context of a request made by competent public authorities, we may be obliged to disclose your personal data in order to meet our legal obligations.

 

PERSONAL DATA OF CHILDREN UNDER 15

Our Platforms are not designed for children under the age of 15 and Knauf never knowingly collects details from children under 15 without the consent of their parents in accordance with the governing laws.

 

CHANGES TO OUR POLICY

Any significant change that we may make to our personal data security and management policy in the future will be displayed on this page before the change becomes effective, and/or we will inform you thereof by our Platforms or, as the case may be, par email. Please come back often to check on updates and look at the changes to our personal data management and security policy. These changes shall come into force as soon as your consent is obtained if necessary, in accordance with local law. If you do not agree or consent to these updates or changes, we would ask that you do not use our platforms.
