In addition to the existing recycling channels, energy recovery is a very interesting alternative for plastic packaging after use. It is also encouraged by current legislation (law n°92-646 of 13/07/92).
Energy recovery is mainly aimed at small plastic packaging and soiled packaging for which sorting is technically and/or economically unsuitable for recycling.
It involves the use of combustible packaging waste as a means of energy production, by direct incineration with or without other waste, but with heat recovery.
Plastics deposited in municipal waste incinerators contribute to the generation of electricity and heat, while the use of separated fractions such as paper/plastic blends as alternative fuels in power stations replaces coal and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
The fumes emitted by municipal incinerators are not dangerous. Dioxins, for example, are completely destroyed if the temperature is high enough.
A majority of local authorities prefer this solution for waste disposal. However, we at Knauf Industries offer a better solution: Knauf Circular®.
At Knauf Industries, we are committed to collecting and recycling our end-of-life products from customers and partners to reduce incineration and landfill.
With our Knauf Circular® service, we ensure that EPS waste is collected, recycled and converted into new products. We ensure that our customers and partners can benefit from the circular economy.
In France, there are 18 sites dedicated to EPS waste recovery, offering a unique and personalised local service.
We are at your disposal to bring you the best possible solutions.
