Packaging solutions for logistics
Faced with modern logistics flows, manufacturers must turn to packaging solutions capable of effectively protecting their products while optimizing transport costs and operational performance. In a context where goods sometimes travel thousands of kilometers before reaching their destination, packaging reliability is a strategic imperative.

In this respect, Knauf Industries designs and manufactures packaging for logistics using cellular plastics, particularly EPS (expanded polystyrene) and EPP (expanded polypropylene). Lightweight, robust, and high-performing, our packaging ensures the protection of fragile or sensitive products throughout the supply chain, while contributing to more sustainable logistics.
Knauf Industries responds to the challenges of modern logistics
Modern logistics must reconcile several imperatives: securing products, reducing costs, improving operator ergonomics, and limiting carbon footprint. Faced with all these challenges, one solution is to optimize the packaging used.
Indeed, our cellular foam solutions address the major constraints of transport and storage:
- Shock and vibration absorption
- Thermal insulation for heat-sensitive products
- Optimizing load weight
- Stackability and stability of pallets
- Waste reduction through reusable solutions
- Eco-design of custom packaging
Thanks to their structure, which is primarily composed of air, EPS and EPP materials are lightweight, facilitating handling while offering significant mechanical strength. They thus provide reliable protection against damage, temperature variations, and humidity.
Why choose our packaging solutions?
Solutions adapted to all types of transport
Road, sea, air or rail transport: each mode involves specific constraints (shocks, compression, climatic variations, repeated handling, etc.).
To address these risks, our logistics packaging is designed to ensure the stability of palletized goods, withstand the physical forces exerted during transport, and facilitate warehouse storage. Furthermore, we can customize packaging to allow for better product identification on pallets or in stock.
When designing our solutions, we take care to consider the entire logistics cycle in order to avoid losses, claims and production line interruptions.
Robust solutions
The primary function of logistics packaging is protection. Our honeycomb foam packaging effectively absorbs impacts and protects sensitive products, even in the event of significant shocks.
Notable advantages of our packaging solutions include:
- Excellent shock absorption capacity
- High mechanical resistance
- High-performance thermal insulation
- Non-absorption of moisture
EPS and EPP, thanks to their density adapted to logistical uses, effectively protect your products, whether they are fragile bottles, household appliances or foodstuffs.

Our range of logistics solutions
Insulated packaging
Our insulated EPS packaging were designed to maintain a stable temperature during the transport of temperature-sensitive products. They are particularly suitable for food products (fish, seafood, fresh produce, etc.) as well as pharmaceutical products requiring the cold chain to be maintained throughout their transport.
Their honeycomb structure provides effective thermal insulation while remaining ultra-lightweight.
Industrial packaging
Our industrial packaging made of EPP offer protection commensurate with the care required by fragile or bulky parts. Thanks to the material's malleability, they can be molded into any shape necessary to precisely protect electronic components as well as wooden or plastic parts.
Their low weight does not increase the overall load and helps to optimize logistics costs.
Before shipment, we also offer packaging solutions designed for your handling stages, including picking trays and conveyor bins are designed to be robust yet lightweight, for simplified daily use by your employees.
Innovative materials for handling
Rotational Packaging
Our rotational packaging such as Komebac® or Flipbox® These reusable EPP containers are a great option for optimizing your B2B logistics. Lightweight and robust, they absorb shocks, resist cracking, and are recyclable at the end of their life.
Usable for many years, they fit into a circular economy model and reduce long-term costs. Available in customizable versions (dimensions, interior layout, color, marking), they can be used in numerous sectors such as last-mile delivery or field analysis by samplers.
Pallets
The pallets Eurolight® and S-KI pallets are ultra-lightweight solutions composed primarily of air. Their design allows for a significant reduction in load weight, a decrease in the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), and improved ventilation of goods. They thus offer a true alternative to traditional wooden or plastic pallets, without nails or splinters.
Corner protectors and wedges
Finally, our range of packaging solutions for logistics is complemented by expanded polystyrene corners and inserts which are used to secure household appliances, electronic products, furniture and glass products.
They prevent internal movement and protect sensitive areas during transport and handling. Produced using the honeycomb molding method or by cutting foams, they can be precisely tailored to your products for secure shipping.

The materials used to manufacture our solutions
EPS
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a lightweight, insulating material known for its excellent shock absorption, thermal performance, and low weight. Composed largely of air, it reduces the transported mass while providing effective product protection.
EPP
Expanded polypropylene (EPP) is a material capable of withstanding repeated impacts, reusable over numerous cycles, lightweight, ergonomic, and recyclable at the end of its life. With its ability to regain its shape after compression, it is an ideal material for rotational packaging and reusable logistics solutions.
Boehringer Ingelheim case study
Boehringer Ingelheim, an independent leader in human and animal health, is replacing its metal or plastic handling bins with expanded polypropylene bins from the Komebac® range. These new bins, chosen for their lightness, customizability, equipment preservation and material flexibility, promote ergonomics and durability. Made in France and recyclable, they protect employee health.
