Protective and weight-reducing foams for furniture

High-performance open-cell foam solutions to protect furniture components, reduce weight in structures, and optimize logistics costs throughout the product lifecycle.

Design of cushioning foams

Knauf Industries manufactures cushioning foams designed to secure the transport and handling of furniture components, both finished pieces and individual parts. Thanks to their open-cell structure, composed primarily of air, our foams offer excellent shock and vibration absorption. They effectively protect furniture from breakage, scratches, or deformation during transport, storage, and handling.

Our cushioning solutions are designed to perfectly adapt to the geometry of your products:

  • Custom-made cushions that conform to the shape of the furniture;
  • Specific corner protectors, crossbars, and protective elements;
  • Optimal retention of parts within their packaging;
  • Reduction of movement and mechanical stress.

Lightweight Foam Design

Cordless foams are a high-performance alternative to traditional materials such as wood, metal, or certain dense plastics in furniture construction.

By incorporating EPP or EPS components, it is possible to significantly reduce the weight of furniture while maintaining its mechanical strength. In this way, Knauf Industries helps you optimize both product design and logistical performance.

Our lightweight foams can reduce the weight of structures without compromising robustness, facilitate furniture handling and installation, and lower transport costs and associated emissions*. All this while improving ergonomics for end users.

Materials used by Knauf Industries for the design of protective and weight-relieving foams

The performance of our furniture solutions relies on the use of cellular materials with advanced technical properties:

  • EPS (expanded polystyrene)

    Expanded polystyrene is a lightweight material composed of up to 98% air and offers excellent shock absorption.

    It is particularly well-suited for cushioning and protective solutions thanks to its lightness, insulating properties, impact absorption capacity, and recyclability.

  • EPP (expanded polypropylene)

    Expanded polypropylene is a technical material recognized for its mechanical strength, resilience, and durability. Composed of approximately 95% air, it offers an excellent balance between lightness and robustness.

    Its main advantages are high resistance to impacts and repeated stresses, shape recovery, and long lifespan, even under intensive use.

    EPP is particularly well-suited for technical parts and structural furniture components.

  • RELOOPS®

    RELOOPS® is an alternative to expanded polystyrene (EPS) that incorporates recycled materials from post-consumer waste. This material is part of a circular economy approach, reducing the use of fossil raw materials while maintaining properties comparable to fossil-based EPS.

    RELOOPS® solutions are recyclable through existing EPS recycling streams and are compatible with dedicated collection and recovery services such as Knauf Circular®.

  • RELOOPP®

    RELOOPP® is an alternative to expanded polypropylene (EPP) made from recycled materials from pre-consumer and post-consumer waste. This technical material allows us to limit the use of fossil resources while maintaining performance comparable to fossil-based EPP (particularly its strength, durability, and ability to absorb repeated stresses).

    RELOOPP® solutions are recyclable in the industrial EPP recycling streams.

  • NEOPS®

    NEOPS® is an alternative to EPS, a certified cellular material derived from biomass. The properties of EPS remain unchanged, such as lightness and impact resistance, but with reduced use of fossil resources.*

    NEOPS is versatile and adapts to various sectors, including food processing, logistics, and packaging. An ideal solution for high-performance, low-carbon cushioning.*
