Raw material

Today our core business is expanded polystyrene processing.

Expansible polystyrene is a raw material that is partly manufactured on one of our sites in Belgium, through polymerization of styrene and pentane, an expansion agent. It undergoes pre-expansion in our factories, a phase that is of primary importance in the molding process. The expanded beads increase, under steam treatment, to 50 times their original volume and will take on a cellular structure composed of 98% air.
Expanded polypropylene is a totally different basic material. It is delivered to us in an expanded condition and contains no swelling agent.

Once the beads are expanded they are left in silos for several hours to stabilize, then injected into a mold where they will melt together when subjected to treatment by water steam, taking on the shape of the mold.
