From a family company to a family of companies

The success of the KNAUF Group dates back to 1932, when the vision of the two KNAUF brothers, Karl and Alfons, was born. These young Mining Engineers decided to take up their first manufacturing challenge, co-founding the KNAUF Brothers (Gebrüder KNAUF) company. The company, having specialized in gypsum extraction and processing, rapidly launched out into the production of construction materials for interior lightweight dry construction.

In 1958 the company started a plasterboard manufacturing business, and innovation and growth quickly followed. New specialist products, in particular insulation, packing and plastics, were added to the increasingly high performance construction products and processes.
 
The KNAUF Group has since forged its reputation for excellence throughout the world. Its exceptional manufacturing success has been consolidated by the human and social principles of the company, whose strength has always been drawn from its family values.
